Things To Do

The cottages are located in the tranquil village of Kilquiggan (own transport is a necessity).   They are ideally suited for exploring Wicklow, Carlow, Wexford and Dublin.  
 
The cottage is surrounded by scenic walks in the immediate vicinity.  There are also many trails and looped walks nearby.

Many of Ireland’s most well known attractions are within driving distance.  
 
 
Wicklow Gaol (Jail)
Wicklow’s Gaol tells a story of crime, cruelty, exile, misery and the harshness of the 1798 rebellion. The original gaol dungeon is open to the public for the first time in over 100 years. (51km) Eircode: A67 Y337 (50 minute drive)
 
 
Powerscourt Waterfall & Gardens
Powerscourt Waterfall is a beautiful waterfall on the river Dargle near Enniskerry. It is surrounded by the great Sugar Loaf Mountain. The waterfall stands at a height of 121 metres, and is the 2nd highest waterfall on the island. (1 hour drive)
 
 
Wicklow Mountains
The Wicklow Mountains is one of the most famous attractions of Ireland. Beautiful streams run into the deep lakes of the valleys. The mountains stretch outside the borders of Wicklow into the counties of Dublin, Wexford and Carlow. 
 
 
Wicklow Way
The Wicklow Way is a 129-kilometre trail that cuts through the beautiful Wicklow Mountains. The trail starts at Marlay Park in southern Dublin and goes through County Wicklow, before ending in the village of Clonegal in County Carlow. The trail takes about 5 to 7 days to do it in its entirety. The  passes close by to the cottage. (500m)
 
 
Glendalough 
Glendalough is both historic and beautiful. It has two of the most beautiful lakes in Ireland which are surrounded by greenery and mountains, which led to it being called ‘Valley of Two Lakes’. The monastic site was founded in the 6th century by St. Kevin. (50 minute drive)
 
 
Altamont gardens  
Widely respected as the jewel in Ireland’s gardening crown,  Altamont Gardens are an enchanting blend of formal and informal gardens with riverside walks covering over 40 acres (16 hectares). Recognised as one of the most beautiful gardens of Ireland, the estate gains much of its character from the many mature trees, native in the avenues and woodland areas, and exotic specimens throughout the gardens (10 km)
 
 
Huntington castle
Huntington Castle is set on over 160 acres of gardens, woodland and farmland. The Castle of Ireland features a fascinating guided tour which explains its 17th-century history. The tour also features the world famous Temple of Isis located in the old castle dungeons. The Castle of Ireland offers a fabulous woodland playground, as well as a charming tearoom and gift shop. Greenan maze
Greenan maze is situated in the beautiful countryside of the Wicklow hills, spend the whole day wandering around the farm in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.  With loads of attractions to check out, the day will be packed full of things to do and will keep the kids fully occupied.  There is something for everyone in the family to enjoy! Rathwood 
Rathwood is an award-winning family run department store and restaurant. 
An animal park, forest walks, train rides and a children’s playground are some of the exciting and different activities that visitors can avail of when they visit Rathwood. The Maze of Ireland consists of 2500 beech hedging woven together in the shape of Ireland and covers 1.2 acres. (5 minutes)
